The Liebster Award

So the lovely Clare over at http://abookandtea.wordpress.com/ nominated me for the Liebster Award. I feel pretty honoured to be nominated. I only started blogging recently and I really do love it. I love having all these new features and I have some blog tours coming up soon which I just cannot wait to do.

So what us the Liebster Award you ask?

The idea behind the award is to give new and upcoming bloggers the opportunity to build their community and get to know one another. It’s the perfect way to meet new people and let them find out some interesting facts about you.

Here’s some rules:
1. Answer the questions that the tagger set for you plus create questions for the people you’ve tagged to answer;
2. Nominate some other bloggers!
3. Let them know!

So first I will answer Clare’s questions

1. What’s the first thing you do when you open your eyes in the morning?

To be honest,it’s either drink some water or check my phone. Sometimes both at the same time.

2. Which do you prefer, a book or an E-Reader? You can only pick one!

I know a lot of people will disagree with me but I’m an e-reader kinda girl. I used to read lots and lots when I was a kid but as I got older life got in the way and I stopped. I really picked it up again when I got my first e-reader. I just find them so much more convenient. they have a built in dictionary, they are quite lights so no hand hurting like when your reading a huge hardback and they are great for going on holiday. you can have your pick of books and it takes up like no space.

3. You’re only allowed to eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?

This one is easy. Chocolate. It would be heavenly.

4. You’re given the opportunity to have your first novel published – what’s the story?

hmmm. that’s difficult. Probably something about vampires and or werewolves and some kind of romance in there. So basically I just said a version of Twilight. How original of me! I’m not very inventive tbh so I don’t think I would be writing a novel. I would love to be a copy editor or proof reader though.

5. Are you a half-empty or half-full type of girl/s?

I’d like to say half full but that’s probably not true, so I’ll have to say half-empty.

6. Your favourite Fruit?

Strawberries or cherries (dipped in chocolate)

7. Do you like using Twitter?

I do actually. I never really got it. In fact I still don’t really get it but I use it mainly like my personalised news. It’s great for finding out about new books and for finding reviews.

8. Can you speak any other languages? Write a sentence!

Well I’m not fluent but, yes, I can speak French. I recently passed an exam, it was the lowest level, but a qualification is a qualification right?

Je voudrais deux pommes et des fraises, s’il vous plaît.

9. Would you like to go into Space?

Yeah, I think it would be entertaining to give it a go. I will try most things once.

10. What is your favourite book of all time?

Wow that is such a hard question. Like a really hard question. So many books spring to mind but I think I would have to say I Heart New York by Lindsey Kelk

Ok now it’s my turn…

I nominate:

  1. Kirsty from  http://theloveofagoodbook.wordpress.com/
  2. Victoria from victorialovesbooks.wordpress.com
  3. Catriona from http://fabulousbookfiend.blogspot.co.uk/
  4. Laura from http://lauraslittlebookblog.blogspot.co.uk/
  5. Sheli from http://shelireads.wordpress.com/

Ok now for my questions…

  1.  Who is your favourite author and why?
  2. Who is your favourite book boyfriend?
  3. What’s your favourite place in the world?
  4. Where do you love to read?
  5. You can only read 3 books for the rest of your life, what would they be?
  6. What is your favourite drink (alcoholic and non)?
  7. What’s your comfort food?
  8. If you have had a bad day what do you do to cheer yourself up?
  9. What is your favourite picture?
  10. What is your most prized possession?

Have fun!

My Soul to Take (Soul Screamers 1)

Rachel Vincent - My Soul to TakeMy rating: 3/5
Date Published: January 2009
Date Read: June 2012

Synopsis:
She doesn’t see dead people. She senses when someone near her is about to die. And when that happens, a force beyond her control compels her to scream bloody murder. Literally.

Kaylee just wants to enjoy having caught the attention of the hottest guy in school. But a normal date is hard to come by when Nash seems to know more about her need to scream than she does. And when classmates start dropping dead for no apparent reason, only Kaylee knows who’ll be next.

My thoughts:
I read this book last year and I know I really liked it so I don’t know why at the time I only gave it 3*s.

I was a big fan of the Twilight series and was recommended this book by Goodreads. I thought I would give it a go. After reading My Soul to Lose I quickly started this one. I remember being hooked and needing to read more and more. As I was a bit behind it meant that I could devour the series quite quickly (which I did). Rachel had me completely and utterly at her mercy for the entire of the month. As soon as I finished one I started the next. I just couldn’t get enough of this series.

So if you don’t know Kaylee is a bean sidhe (pronounced banshee). Except she doesn’t know, and she doesn’t know how to control her ability. That is until the High School hottie takes an interest in her and seems to know more about it than she did. It was great to watch their relationship develop throughout this book.

Kaylee is a pretty average high school girl. She’s not in the popular crowd but she’s not in the geeky unpopular crowd she surfs somewhere inbetween. She’s a pretty likeable character and you feel pretty sorry for her when she can’t control all this screaming.

I love Nash. I always imagine him to look a bit like Nate from Gossip Girl  aka Chase Crawford. He plays sports, he’s the most popular guy in the school, who wouldn’t love him?

Then you throw in his ‘dead’ brother. Except he’s still around. How does that work you ask? Well Tod is a reaper, you know a Grim Reaper with the black cloak and the scythe. Well they don’t really have black cloaks and scythe’s but you get the idea. I can already tell that Tod is going to be trouble.

This was a great read and I as soon as I finished this I started My Soul to Save. A fantastic YA fantasy/paranormal book.

My Soul to Lose (Soul Screamers 0.5)

my-soul-to-lose-ukMy Rating: 3/5
Date Published: July 2009
Date Read: June 2012

Synopsis:
It was supposed to be a fun day, shopping at the mall with her best friend. Then the panic attack started and Kaylee Cavanaugh finds herself screaming, unable to stop. Her secret fears are exposed and it’s the worst day of her life.
Until she wakes up in the psychiatric unit.
She tries to convince everyone she’s fine–despite the shadows she sees forming around another patient and the urge to scream which comes burbling up again and again. Everyone thinks she’s crazy. Everyone except Lydia, that is. Another patient with some special abilities….

My Thoughts:
This was a prequel to Rachel’s new series called Soul Screamers. This was originally released on her website for free. It is a very short story which in essence brings up more questions than it answers. Which leaves you wanting more (obviously the point but still). This is a good taster of what will follow in the rest of the series.

Book News: Karli Perrin April#2 title and cover reveal

Hello,

Oh, what exciting news I have for you today. Karli Perrin has let me take part in the title and cover reveal for the second book in her April series. I have to admit, I haven’t quite got around to reading April Showers (Book 1) but I have heard lots of good things about it and I plan to read it soon.

So firstly the title is…… *drumroll*

April Fools

I really like it. It has so many connotations and interpretations. Is April the fool? Is April doing the fooling? Oh the excitement and wonder.

And then there’s the cover. A hot semi naked man, obviously an instant win. They look like they are on a beach or at least somewhere hot. I am instantly envious. Additionally, I am a sucker a pretty sunset. The font for April’s name is just perfect. I have always been partial to a swirly girly font. So in summary I really love this cover.

April Fools Cover Image-02 (1)If all this wasn’t enough, I also have the synopsis:

Love. Hate. Fear. Fate.

All four letter words.

All consuming.

Naked to the eye, they have the power to control the heart and destroy the soul.

April Adams is about to experience them like never before.

When everything in April’s life goes up in smoke, she is faced with some life changing decisions.

Join April as she continues her journey of love and loss.

This is due to be released in December this year!!!

A Walk to Remember

awtr-bookMy Rating 5/5
Date Published: January 1999
Date Read: September 2013

Synopsis:
There was a time when the world was sweeter…and something happened to a seventeen-year-old boy that would change his life forever.

It was 1958, and Landon had already dated a girl or two. He even claimed to have been in love. Certainly the last person he thought he would fall for was Jamie Sullivan, daughter of the town’s Baptist minister. A quiet girl who carried a Bible with her schoolbooks, Jamie seemed content living in a world apart from the other teens. She took care of her widowed father, rescued hurt animals, and volunteered at the local orphanage.

Landon would never have dreamed of asking her out, but a twist of fate threw them together when he found himself without a partner for the school dance. In the months that followed, Landon discovered truths that most people take a lifetime to learn – about the joy of giving, the pain of loss and, most of all, the transforming nature of love. Being with Jamie would show him the depths of the human heart and lead him to a decision so stunning it would send him irrevocably on the road to manhood…

My Thoughts:
Firstly I would like to say Nicholas Sparks write the best book boyfriends. I think this is a widely agreed statement. He also writes the saddest books. I have read 3 books by Sparks and I have cried during every single one of them.

I knew the story for this book as I watched the film years ago. Having already watched the film ruined this a bit for me as there was a storyline in the film which did not feature in the book. I was a little saddened by this as, part of this is one of my best memories of the film.

Back to the book, this is a very moving but romantic book. Seeing Landon change so quickly but so deeply and so irrevocably is amazing. Deep down he had the ability to be this wonderful person but the one to see it and bring it out in him was Jamie. Jamie is one of those characters you can’t help but love. She’s so happy despite everything that’s happened to her. She is always thinking of others before herself.

I would recommend this book to all those chick-lit lovers out there but make sure you have a box of tissues handy.

The Notebook

coverMy Rating: 5/5
Date Published: January 2006
Date Read: Sept 2013

Synopsis:
Set amid the austere beauty of the North Carolina coast, The Notebook begins with the story of Noah Calhoun, a rural Southerner recently returned form the Second World War. Noah is restoring a plantation home to its former glory, and he is haunted by images of the beautiful girl he met fourteen years earlier, a girl he loved like no other. Unable to find her, yet unwilling to forget the summer they spent together, Noah is content to live with only memories…until she unexpectedly returns to his town to see him once again.
Like a puzzle within a puzzle, the story of Noah and Allie is just the beginning. As it unfolds, their tale miraculously becomes something different, with much higher stakes. The result is a deeply moving portrait of love itself, the tender moments and the fundamental changes that affect us all. It is a story of miracles and emotions that will stay with you forever.

My Thoughts:
As you may know from yesterday’s post I have been reading The Notebook this week. I knew the story from the film but I loved the book even more. Naturally I had the image of Ryan Gosling in my head throughout the book. Even when Noah was old. Noah is the perfect book boyfriend. He’s caring, loving and sexy. He loves Allie from the moment he met her and he never forgot her. The love was so powerful that it brought them back together, like he always knew it would. This is the sweetest love story. Throughout the entire book Noah never gives up on Allie and I love him for that. This book has the perfect ending. It’s just so sweet.

Of course a reveiw of The Notebook is not complete without at least one picture of Ryan Gosling….
