Johnny Be Good (Johnny Be Good 1)

coverMy Rating 4/5
Date Published: October 2008
Date Read: January 2013

Synopsis:
If your boss was the hottest rock star on the planet, would you mix business with pleasure?

I’m Meg Stiles. This is my leaving party. And that song we’re making a mockery of? That’s written by one of the biggest rock stars in the world. And I’m moving in with him tomorrow.

Seriously! I am not even joking. Well, maybe I’m misleading you a little bit. You see, I haven’t actually met him yet…

No, I’m not a stalker. I’m his new PA. His Personal Assistant. And I am off to La-La Land. Los Angeles. The City of Angels—whatever you want to call it—and I can’t bloody believe it!

Celebrity PA to wild boy of rock Johnny Jefferson, Meg’s glam new life in sun-drenched LA is a whirlwind of showbiz parties and backstage passes. Cool, calm Christian, in town to write his famous friend’s biography, helps keep Meg’s feet firmly on the ground. But with Johnny’s piercing green eyes and a body Brad Pitt would kill for, how long will it be before she’s swept right off them again?

My Thoughts:
This was my third Paige Toon book and it did not disappoint. With the beautiful setting and the luxurious lifestyle it was hard not to enjoy it.

Meg’s predecessor was Daisy (from Chasing Daisy) who as we learn had fallen in love with Johnny and left when it all went wrong. So Meg promised herself that she would not fall in love with Johnny. With his charm and good looks,  the parties, the backstage passes, this is more difficult than she anticipated. Throw Christian Johnny’s best friend into the mix and things become interesting.  I was torn throughout the whole book Johnny or Christian. Both were equally yummy and I can see why Meg has such a hard time.

Paige has a knack for making you never want to put her books down and I definitely could not stop turning the pages. A funny, sad, heart-breaking and romantic book.

Synopsis:
Does being in a relationship make you a hot commodity in the eyes of would-be suitors?

Chloe Lane is about to find out. When her childhood pal, Ethan Webster, asks her to play the part of his girlfriend in order to test this theory, she reluctantly agrees. As a work-crazed fashion designer, boutique owner and soon-to-be reality show judge, Chloe has no time for a real boyfriend, but being part of a faux pair will do just fine. Not that she has any intention of trying to attract someone else.

However…

Opportunity unexpectedly knocks when Chloe meets fellow reality judge, William Shannon. Super successful and super sexy, this high-powered entrepreneur inspires Chloe to test Ethan’s theory herself. Now, on top of keeping her fashion business productive, carving out a new role as a television personality, maintaining a fake relationship and attempting to lay the groundwork for a future relationship, she’s lying to William, lying to her friends, lying to her family and quite possibly lying to herself. Will Chloe be able to keep it all together, or are things about to explode?

My Thoughts:
Anna asked me if I would like to review this book for her. This is the first time anyone has asked me to do this and I was very excited. After reading the synopsis I instantly knew this was the kind of book I would choose to read and immediately said yes. It took me around a week to read this but the majority of it was read over two days. My weekdays don’t allow much time for reading so the majority of this was read over the weekend.

Anyway on to the book. I love Chloe, she’s cute, she loves to shop and she makes clothes, but at times I did wish she had a bit more self esteem. She definitely should have asked for more money for the show. Isabel and Veronica were great side characters as was Julian. I don’t think a girl could ask for better friends. Now on to the two main guys in this book. I will start with Mr Hotshot William Shannon. He was unquestionably  hot and powerful. I could see what attracted Chloe to him. Now on to Ethan. Ethan started off in my head as this dependably friend but, you know, nothing special. A good guy, not unattractive but not someone who you would say was downright sexy. However the more I read the more I changed my mind and he became sexier and sexier. Two hot guys in one book, what is a girl to do?

The last few chapters I found, were the best. I just couldn’t put the book down. I just had to know what was going to happen next and the ending did not disappoint me. If you love Chick-lit then I would definitely recommend you read this.

Lucy in the Sky

coverMy Rating: 5/5
Date Published: April 2007
Date Read: September 2009

Synopsis:
Settling down for a 24-hour flight to Australia, Lucy finds a text message on her phone from a woman claiming to have slept with her boyfriend, James, four times in the past month. Trapped above the Pacific, she questions everything about their relationship, but when she finally calls him, James reassures her that it was only his friend playing a joke. James is gorgeous and successful and Lucy adores him, yet at her best friend Molly’s wedding in Sydney, she finds herself having doubts and is keeping an eye on Molly’s brother-in-law Nathan. Nathan is a happy-go-lucky surfer boy with no prospects, no place to live, and an almost-girlfriend in tow. Suddenly, Lucy finds herself caught between two distant continents and two very different men.

My Thoughts:
So I read Lucy in the Sky while on holiday. I just loved it. Just as you’re about to get on a 24 hour flight is not the best time to find out your boyfriend is cheating on you, so to say Lucy’s flight was eventful is an understatement. I instantly hated James and thought his explanation was, essentially, crap. I was sitting there screaming, “don’t believe him he’s lying!” Nathan on the other hand….
.Sorry got a bit carried away thinking about Nathan there. He’s hot, he’s fun and he surfs. I mean do you really need much more in a man. I loved how much description there was for both London and Sydney. Paige has clearly spent a lot of time in both locations. I enjoyed Lucy and Nathan’s jokes. I thought it was cute.  This is a great chick-lit read that will have you hooked from the beginning.

The Longest Holiday

coverMy Rating: 5/5
Date Published: April 2013
Date Read: August 2013

Synopsis:
He’s smiling down at me with tears in his eyes as I say my solemn vow:
‘I, Laura, take thee, Matthew, to be my lawful wedded husband…’ I thought I would never feel like this about anyone ever again. Not after my first love… Not after the heartbreak and the loss and the trying to pick myself back up again… Then I met Matthew, and I know that he has my heart forever: my perfect, gorgeous, adoring Matthew. And then I wake up. And I remember that he’s not perfect. He’s so far from perfect that my heart could surely collapse from the pain that instantly engulfs me…
To say Laura is unlucky in love is an understatement. Her first boyfriend died in a horrific accident, and now she’s just discovered that her husband of six months has been hiding a terrible secret. Devastated and unwilling to face reality, she escapes on a girls’ holiday to Key West with her best friend Marty. But a deep and instant attraction to a sexy Cuban scuba diver takes her completely by surprise. When her two weeks in the sun come to an end, Laura doesn’t want to go home again. But she can’t run from real life forever. Can she?

My Thoughts:
Oh wow. What a great book. I love Paige’s books and I think that this just beat Lucy in the Sky as my favourite Paige Toon book. As with all of Paige’s books I was hooked instantly. I don’t know how she does that but, I love it. The location well, it’s just heavenly. The sun, the sand and then the men. Oh the men and by men I really mean man. Leo. That man is hot, sexy and troubled. A chiselled jaw, dark eyes, dark eyebrows, olive skin and short black hair. Did I mention hot and sexy? Sorry I’m a little bit in love.  Lets talk about Laura. Laura was first introduced in Chasing Daisy. Here she was portrayed as a perfect socialite and quite honestly I didn’t like her. At all. However after one or two pages of this book I completely changed my mind. This book had a little bit of everything; laughter, sadness, sun, sand, love and heartbreak. There was such a shocking twist in this book. I did not see it coming. I loved the ending of this book and I really really hope Paige brings these characters back for a squeal.
